Hi, my name is
Harshit Khandelwal
I build systems that scale.
Engineering @ Varonis • ex-Safe Security • GSoC'19
6+ years engineering high-throughput microservices,
event-driven architectures, and cloud-native platforms in the cybersecurity domain.
01. About Me
I'm a backend engineer passionate about building systems that handle massive scale with elegance. Currently working at Varonis, I previously spent 6 years at Safe Security where I grew from a campus intern to Tech Lead — designing data pipelines processing 2B+ assessments/day and microservices handling 150M+ daily signals.
I specialize in Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM) and Cyber Risk Quantification Management (CRQM), building the infrastructure that helps organizations understand and manage their cyber risk at scale.
I'm an AWS Certified Solutions Architect, a Google Summer of Code alumnus, and a CodeHeat Grand Prize Winner selected among the top 3 of 650+ participants from 13 countries — recognized by FOSSASIA in Singapore.
Beyond code, I've mentored 100+ students through Google Code-in and FOSSASIA programs, and I'm passionate about team building and open-source communities.

Varonis
- Building security infrastructure at one of the leading data security and analytics companies.
Tech Lead / SDE-III
Safe Security
Started as a campus intern, progressed through 4 promotions to Tech Lead. Built the core data infrastructure powering Safe Security's cybersecurity platform.
SDE-III / Tech Lead
- Set up data pipeline to process 100M asset assessments per tenant (2B+/day) using Snowflake warehouse and Iceberg tables for CTEM use case.
- Built a scalable microservice from scratch using Golang with Kafka & PostgreSQL to process 150M+ daily signals from 150+ cybersecurity integrations.
SDE-II
- Implemented event-driven architecture for cyber risk assessments, reducing finding-impact reflection from 6 hours to minutes with queue-level retries.
- Developed AI-driven vendor interaction agent using GPT prompt engineering, reducing manual evaluation.
- Migrated services from EC2 to ECS Fargate with load balancing for scalability & performance.
- Maintained 90% unit test and 80% API integration test coverage across services.
SDE-I
- Scaled AWS Serverless architecture on SAFE Me platform to support a 50x surge in users and dark-web exposure data.
- Standardized API performance testing with K6, reducing p95 latency below 1s.
- Developed end-to-end mobile app pipeline in a Dockerized environment.
Technical Trainee
- Contributed as Full Stack Developer on AWS-hosted serverless application.
- Debugged & fixed issues in SAFE Me Android app.
Student Developer
Google Summer of Code — FOSSASIA
- Contributed to open-source projects with FOSSASIA; stabilized app, implemented payment handling, and launched to production.
